Stop Evaporation

Glossary

Aerodynamic Resistance

A measure of how strongly the air resists the transfer of water vapour and heat away from a surface, set mainly by wind speed and surface roughness. Lower resistance (more wind) means faster evaporation.

Aerodynamic resistance appears explicitly in the Penman-Monteith equation. It falls as wind increases, which is why exposed, high-fetch sites evaporate faster.
