Eddy Covariance
A micrometeorological technique that measures evaporation directly by correlating high-frequency fluctuations in vertical wind speed and humidity. It provides a benchmark against which simpler estimation methods are judged.
Because it measures the actual vapour flux rather than inferring it, eddy covariance is often used to validate pan, mass-transfer and Penman-type estimates over open water.
